Of interest to dietitians are courses and journal clubs focusing on Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, wound and ostomy care, parenteral nutrition, wasting disease and others. Course content is all referenced using peer-reviewed journals from reputable sources and all authors are experienced medical writers. In order to register for a course, click on the “new visitors” link on the home page. You will only need to do this the first time you look for a course. After you have registered as a new user, just look for the “ask for a password” icon next to each course listing. One nice feature is that you may complete a course in multiple sessions by logging in each time using the same user name and password, then jump to the spot where you last left off. Hi-R-Ed Online University is an approved provider as registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the American Dietetic Association. Nutrition CME offers free online continuing medical education for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, nutritionists, and other health care providers The focus is on how nutrition can be used for health promotion and prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other chronic diseases. The site is jointly sponsored by The George Washington University and Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). The George Washington University Medical Center is accredited by the Commission on Dietetic Registration to provide continuing professional education to registered dietitians and registered dietitian technicians.
New users need to register with a username and password. The CMEs consist of self study modules that you complete, take an exam and do an evaluation. Then you can generate a certificate for 1 hour of CME. There are also webcast modules. Some of the webcasts require RDs to view the program with at least two other medical professionals and have a discussion. Examples of available programs are: “Diet and Breast Cancer Survival, Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, and A Plant Based Dietary Intervention for Type 2 Diabetes”. There are several .5 CME self study modules on obesity topics, cancer, bone health and dyslipidemia. You can also browse the website to find speaker’s slides of previous presentations.
